Victim of lover's lane bandit

Mrs. Olive Elizabeth Baker, 26, at left, was shot and killed early Wednesday morning while sitting in a parked car with a chance acquaintance, William Dollard, in Peoria's Bradley Park. Dollard told police a masked gunman emerged from a thicket, turned a flashlight upon them and that Mrs. Baker tore the handkerchief from the man's face. After pleading for five dollars "to get to Chicago" the gunman snarled, "A wise gal, huh?", shot her in the throat and fled. Dollard drove Mrs. Baker to Methodist Hospital where she was dead on arrival. Dollard, who was taken into custody as a material witness and released under $500 bond, is shown (at left in photograph at right) with assistant state's attorney C.E. McNemar as they view photographs trying to identify the assailant.
