Woman, 54, adopts son, 27

Smiling at the camera, and displaying the proper affection between mother and son, are Mrs. Warren Elwood, 54, and Ernest Hernandez, 27. Mrs. Elwood adopted Hernandez today. It was California's first adoption under new law which permits one adult to adopt another adult. Mrs. Elwood is head of a professional writers' college. Hernandez has been acting as assistant registrar of the college. He met his new mother in 1946 after he was discharged from the Navy. The young man is an orphan and Mrs. Elwood is a widow.
