WAF lieutenant makes history

History was made in the U.S. Air Force Air Defense Command recently when a young WAF officer of Lubbock, Tex., became the first woman assigned as an orbital analyst in the 9th Aerospace Defense Division. The orbital analysis office, located in Colorado Springs, Colo., is the only office of its kind in the free world. It is an integral part of the Air Defense Command's Space Defense Center charged with tracking all man-made objects in orbit around the earth. WAF Second Lieutenant Deborah G. Johnson entered the Air Force as a distinguished graduate of the Air Force Officer Training School at Lackland AFB, Tex. Prior to attending OTS, she graduated from Texas Tech in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry.
