Vatican City: Pope Paul VI has empowered the secretariat for promoting Christian unity to study the question of collaboration with non-Catholics in translating and distributing the Bible, the Vatican announced (11/8). Boston-born American Jesuit Father Walter M. Abbott, who advocated the common Bible idea for many years and gained support for it in the Ecumenical Council, was named to head the study.
