During the winter of 1863-1864 the Army of the Potomac was in winter quarters near Brandy Station, Va. This view is a characteristic scene. The log hut, with the crevices plastered up with Virginia mud, the log chimney and the pork barrel on top of it to help the draft, - it is a vivid reminder of those days of the war.
