Mrs. Louise C. Campbell (shown) 39-year-old divorcee was shot to death last night by a rejected suitor who failed in three attempts to end his own life. In good condition at Lutheran Hospital is Willard A. Deakins, 51, whom police said, suffered cuts and possible fractures of the ribs when struck by an automobile which hurled him 30 feet. Police said the man pressed the gun which had killed the woman against his head and pulled the trigger five times. It failed to fire. He then defied two police officers to shoot him but they refused. Failing this, the man dived in front of a moving automobile. According to police Mrs. Campbell was shot when she attempted to flee from the man who had come to her home after a telephone call in which he threatened to kill himself unless she agreed to see him.
