Voder' You Know About That. Pardon the pun, but humanity is helpless before the onward rush of science. The attractive young woman seen above is Mrs. Helen Harper, and far from listening to Bing Crosby on the radio as you might suppose from the dials in front of her, she is operating the Voder, the first machine in the world to create speech -- no "canned talk" or recording. Speech isn't all -- the Voder can hiss, too. The demonstration took place at Franklin Institute, Philadelphia, before scientists.
