Richard Bell, 19, of Blauvelt, N.Y., is booked in New York's Central Park precinct tonight on a homicide charge in connection with the strangling of Carole Yvonne Hughes, 18, of Pearl River, N.Y. Chief of Detectives Lawrence McKearney said that Bell told him that he punched and then strangled to death the girl, whose body was found this morning near the boathouse in Central Park. McKearney said Bell told of a violent quarrel arising from the girl's insistence on an early wedding date.
