The United States Grand Jury has begun an inquiry into the affairs and business methods of several mining enterprises with which have been connected Josiah Quincy former mayor of Boston, Julian Hawthorne, the author, James B. Hanna and Dr. W.J. Morton. These enterprises have been capitalized for many million dollars, obtained it is alleged from school teachers, ministers and widows in all parts of the country, but principally in New England where the magic of the names of Quincy and Hawthorne is great. The investigation is said to be under the personal supervision of Wickersham and Postmaster Hitchcock.
