Undated file photo shows Richard C. Newell, 58, of Oxnard, Calif., who became Southern California's first heart transplant recipient 2/20. The surgery was performed by a 10-man surgical team headed by Richard J. Cleveland at Harbor General hospital. Mr. Newell was reported to be resting comfortably 2/21 and a hospital spokesman said he had a short conversation with his wife and his nurse.
