Umpires Attend Hearing -- Former American League umpires Al Salerno, left, and Bill Valentine confer during recess Wednesday of a National Labor Relations Board hearing in Boston on charges against the American League of unfair labor practices. Valentine contended Tuesday he and Salerno were fired because they sought to unionize the league's umpires. They were dismissed Sept. 16, 1968 and both seek reinstatement.
