Thousands of visitors annually walk the path to this outlook in the Madison River Valley, in southwestern Montana. Ten years ago part of the mountain directly in front fell, burying everything in its path; much of the dirt has been excavated since. The damage was part of extensive devastation caused by a massive earthquake, centered on this spot, which jolted an eight-state area on August 17, 1969.
