Surrender to Police. Douglas P. Adams, 37 (right) being booked at Police Headquarters shortly after surrendering to County Attorney Frederic S. Sturgis in Portland, Me., June 14th after being sought for five days. Sturgis said Adams calmly described how he slashed his wife, Charlotte, 38, and daughter Carolyn, 12, to death a week ago because he couldn't provide for them. Adams told officials he took an early train to Boston after the slaying and continued to New York.
