Karsh, Yousuf, 1908-2002 · 1956
As I opened the door of my New York studio in May 1956, I was delighted to find a man with bushy eyebrows (nature's gift to portraitists) and, beneath them, eyes of dancing, sparkling animation. Thornton Wilder won me over at first sight. ~ The American novelist and playwright is a refreshing man, not only in his work but in his conversation. He carried our sitting along a flow of lively anecdote and raillery (Karsh, 1959).
