Sunrise Over Puget Sound Salmon Derby. As the sun rose and broke thru the clouds on Puget Sound, the starting bomb roared thru the morning stillness at 4:30 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 7, and this scene was revealed. Over 500 small boats with an equal number of fishermen scattered over Seattle's harbor to try and catch a prize winning salmon in the 11th annual Puget Sound Salmon Fishing Derby. Each boat carried a fisherman, and official observer, who watched that all rules be obeyed to the letter.
