Thirty Year Fight Won Four Million Dollar Irrigation Dam Completed. The fight that has been going on for some 36 years has finally been won by the farmers of Tuolumne County, California. The new Don Pedro dam near Turlock has been completed. Some of the richest country in the State of California is in the Turlock and Modesto districts. For 36 years the farmers have been hampered by lack of sufficient water supply for irrigation purposes. The new dam was just recently dedicated and farmers claim that it will add millions of dollars annually to their crops. The new dam will supply nearly 200,000 acres with water for irrigation. The dam cost nearly $4,000,000 and is the highest dam in the world, being 283 feet high. The dam gets its water from the Tuolumne river and impounds 290,000 acre feet of water.
