Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty stands on Bedloe's Island, 1 3 4 miles southwest from the Battery. Designed by August Bartholdi, it was presented by the French in 1884, and is 150 ft. high, standing on a pedestal 155 ft. It symbolizes "Liberty Enlightening the World."
