Willard, the champion, in training. New York City (Bellows) / Jess Willard, the six foot six inch "Pottawattomie Giant," fulfilled his promise as a "white hope" by winning the title of champion from Jack Johnson in Cuba in 1915. He is seen as the figure on the right having his gloves adjusted in "Introducing John L. Sullivan" (M. 27). (Mason)
