Thawing Out Wrigley Field For Championship Football Game. To insure proper playing conditions for the National Professional Football championship game between the Chicago Bears and the Washington Redskins this coming Sunday, workmen are spraying gasoline on the field and then setting it a fire to melt the surface ice and soften the frozen playing sod to a depth of 6 inches. Hot blasts from an asphalt heater are also being used. Following this procedure a layer of straw and a tarpaulin was spread over the whole field.
