Modern Pioneers Launch Log Cabin Community. Spurred on by economic conditions, eight hardy families; reverting to the pioneer instincts of their fore fathers; have begun a log-cabin cooperative community on the edge of a wilderness that flanks the Daniel Webster Highway in this section. Among the contributing factors which led the twentieth century pioneers to strike out for themselves were high rents; cramped play room for children and lack of farming space. The cabins, built by the settlers themselves at a cost of less than $400; are constructed of pine; with clear maple and white birch flooring. All the timber supply is taken from the surrounding woods. The original cost of the land; about $60 an acre, and materials not available from natural sources constitute the outlay for what members of the community describe as "comfortable homes."
