At Coldstream, the first ford above Berwick, crossed by Edward I. When he entered Scotland in 1296, General Monk in 1660 raised the regiment, afterwards known as the Coldstream Guards, with the aid of which Charles II. was restored to the throne. Before boat and poplar to left, boat in foreground and tree to extreme right.
