Staff of Life for Engineer's Family- Janet Liessner with two loaves fresh from the oven of her home bakery in Carlisle, Mass., where she lives with her husband Walter and six children. Liessner was one of thousands of highly skilled engineers fired in massive layoffs in electronic and research plants in Boston area. Mrs. Liessner expanded an informal home bakery to ease the family finances. Now her husband sells her bakery good in a century-old country he bought in nearby Acton.
