They converged on an infield popup off the bat of Matty Alou of the San Francisco Giants in the third inning. After some fumbling, Cannizzaro managed to hold the ball for the final out of the inning. Backing up the play is pitcher Al Jackson. Mets defeated the Giants, 4-1, in night game at New York's Shea Stadium.
