Striking Linemen Stage Sit-down Atop Poles. Flushing: N.Y.-Five Edison Company Linemen fastened their safety belts around two-fifty-foot poles on Main Street and Roosevelt avenue today, as a protest demonstration against the layoff of 350 employees and announced that they would not come down until the discharged workers were reinstated. Police reserves were called out to straighten out a traffic snarl but made no attempt to dislodge the pole-sitters. The three men shown on this pole are William J. Kennedy, former lineman and CIO organizer: Edward Harrison and Thomas Gillen.
