Tambour desk by John Seymour & Son ca. 1800, Boston. Height 3'5". One of the choice examples of New England furniture of late 18th century. Constructed of San Domingan mahogany with satinwood inlay, the inlaid pilaster forms and sliding tambour shutters are characteristic of Seymour's work. The inlaid festoons on the reeded shutters are details rarely found. The four ring handles frame circular plaques of Bilston enamel. Two drawers and three pigeon holes behind each tambour shutter.
