Swooning beauty arises to reign as queen of married pretties

Asbury Park, N.J. - Mrs. Evelyn Joyce Schenk of Irvington, N.J., a 20-year-old brown-eyed brunette wearing the sash of "Mrs. North Jersey," was chosen "Mrs. America" tonight at Asbury Park, N.J. -- and promptly fainted. Photo on left: "Mrs. Ohio," La Vonne Bond Breyer, who tied for third, and a judge, try to revive the swooning beauty. Photo on right: the fully-recovered queen of the married pretties displays the attributes that won her the "Mrs. America" title. Mrs. Schenk is the wife of a Newark tire salesman. Along with her trophy, she won $10,000 in prizes and a coast-to-coast personal appearance tour.
