Ships sailing the North Atlantic are skirting south this summer to avoid one of the worst recorded armadas of “killer” icebergs and hidden chunks called “growlers.” Patrol ships of International Ice Patrol chart, track and report icebergs. According to Commodore Sir Ivan Thompson, skipper of the Queen Elizabeth, conditions are worse than in 1912, the year the Titanic sunk.
