On the right is the hull of a ship in course of construction, drawn directly from the front ; the sharp line of her bows cuts the transverse lines of the scaffolding. To the left and in the foreground a busy yard, full of workmen ; one stands to the left with arms akimbo, another wheels a barrow to the front. Much of the dry point work on the sky removed and partly replaced by fresh lines; little remains of the horizontal lines described; the smoke which issues from a narrow funnel, and drifts up towards the left, is more concentrated and defined, especially to the left of the tall post which divides it. The shed on the left is shaded up to the edge of the plate except a triangular patch at the top.
