Flying a Spitfire, owned by a U.S. embassy official, Miss Lettice Curtis, 33-year-old British woman flyer, broke the 100-kilometer closed circuit record at the international air races here. Miss Curtis flew at 313.07 miles an hour, 21 MPH better than the record set by America's Jacqueline Cochran in 1940. Part of her plane, with the embassy labels, is in background.
