Three judges, sitting as panel, today sentenced to death in the electric chair John W. Burgess, 23-year-old Philadelphian, in the rape-slaying of a 79-year-old woman last Palm Sunday. Police said Burgess, who had pleaded guilty to murder, also was one of three men who invaded the home of the victim, beat and raped the grandmother, her daughter and a grand-daughter.
