Shirley O'Neill, 18, is shown in hospital here tonight after she had rescued her swimming companion from a shark. Miss O'Neill and Albert Kogler, 18, were swimming in the surf a few hundred yards from the Golden Gate Bridge late today when they saw the shark. Kogler told her to go back to shore, but as he reached the shore, Kogler shouted "help me." A fisherman tied his line around Miss O'Neill's waist and she courageously swam back into the bloody water where Kogler struggled to stay afloat. Kogler's right arm was badly cut, his chest gashed and his left shoulder was nearly gone. He died later in Letterman Army Hospital.
