A temporary erection of wood is seen in front of a span of the Auld Brig. Four men are carrying a block of stone across a plank towards the left. In the distance another bridge and factories with two tall chimneys are lightly drawn. Done from nature. With the parapet, of which only one compartment, towards the left, is at present shaded. Additional shading on the water and much work on the near shore in the foreground. Smoke now floats to the left from one of the chimneys. Two early impressions (1909) on stout yellowish Japanese paper, and nine printed in 1916, which show some accidental scratches in the sky to the left of the smoke, near the middle of the parapet, and elsewhere.
