Fantin-Latour, Henri, 1836-1904 · 1888
On the right, in the foreground, the poet is seen from behind. He is sitting on a hillock, at the foot of a green, in a high place. A great winged angel flies past him and shows him visions above. On the right, emerging from the greenery, a woman's face is seen. She has flowers on her forehead and is smiling. On the left, there is another woman who is seated in profile on the clouds and her cheek leans on her hand in a gesture of sadness. In the middle, in the light, a third female figure rises toward the sky and her gaze and gesture of her hand follow. On the bottom left, in the distance, is a view of Paris and the towers of Notre-Dame. (Victor Hugo, Religions and Religion)
