Regular Army Gets First Woman Medical Officer-First Lt. Fae M. Adams of San Jose, Calif., today is sworn in as the first woman physician to be commissioned in the U.S. regular army. Maj. Louis H. Foubare (left) of Alpena, Mich., administers the oath in the presence of Maj. Gen. George E. Armstrong, army surgeon general. Lt. Adams has been serving as a medical reserve officer since last July. During World War II she was a member of the women's army corps.
