On the left the spire of St. Ouen is the most conspicuous object. The verge of the Seine runs along the left side beneath the road which passes between the houses and with another beyond it, crosses the river to the right. In the foreground the artist's son Stephen is seated sketching, on a wooden wharf. The shading on the planks in the foreground is extended. Zigzag shading runs along the centre, near the bottom of the plate, and further to the right, beneath Stephen Bone, and there are many isolated flicks.
