Edith C. Baum, 25-year-old slim brunette, poses today after she was sworn in as a member of the new Metropolitan police rookie class. She is the daughter of an FBI agent, William Carter Baum, who was killed in a gun battle with Baby Face Nelson in 1934. Edith was only 11 months old at the time but she has read newspaper clippings of the fight with the gangster who escaped in the gun battle but was slain seven months later by the FBI. She lives in nearby Chevy Chase, Md., and is interested in juvenile problems.
