Sap on Tap in the Sugar Bush-It's maple syrup time again in Vermont. The harvest is a little skimpier than usual but just as sweet. Bearded farmer at top left shows how sap is collected from maple grove or "sugar bush." Oxen (top, center) still pull the syrup tanks in many Vermont farms. Gladys and Harriet Olmstead of So. Royalston, Vt. (top right) take a sample while gathering sap. The fresh sap flows into feeder tanks in the sugar house (lower left) where it is evaporated into syrup. At Big Bromley (lower center) Elsbeth M. Park (on skis) and Audrey Brown combine winter sports with work. Steam fills the sugar house (lower right) as the sap boils down to syrup.
