Smith (C) and two faculty members sit alone after representatives of the Black Student Union and other student leaders broke off talks with college administrators during second session of a "crisis convocation" involving a series of demands by students. The striking students walked off the stage after Pres. Smith refused to give a "yes or no" answer to the question of whether he would close classes during the convocation.
