Four female figures advance, two by two, towards the bust of Schumann that is placed on the right on a high pedestal. The first female, seen from the front, shows a scroll which reads "Paradise and the Peri, Genevieve, Manfred, Faust, 1810-1856" (the "N's" and "D's" are reversed). The second woman, almost seen from behind, is dressed in dark clothes and holds a palm. The third woman holds a palm, too. The fourth woman, seen in full light, picks a rose. A fifth woman, who follows her, carries a basket of flowers on her head. A teenage Génie, with its wings spread, will put a crown on the head of the musician. At the foot of the pedestal is the seated Music. She holds a lyre in her hand and looks melancholy.
