SAN FRANCISCO Robert Jamison, 21 charged with the murder of his 18-month-old stepson prays as the jury debates his fate here 8/4. The prosecution had demanded a verdict of "murder in the first degree," for the former sailor and circus roustabout, who's estranged wife charged him with beating the child to death. Jamison insisted the little boy was injured in falling down the front steps of the Jamison home in Alameda, Calif., & died while he was trying to administer artificial respiration. The jury chose to believe Jamison's story & returned an acquittal.
