Fantin-Latour, Henri, 1836-1904 · [ca. 1880]
In the background, on the left, is the ghost of Hector standing naked and holding his round shield in one hand, and his spear in the other. Aeneas, who is resting on her bed, awakes with a start. We only see her from behind, but the gesture of her left arm, stretched out towards the specter, expresses her terror. At the bottom, we see Troy in flames. On the right, hanging on the wall are the spear and the shield of Aeneas. A lamp, placed next to it, throws fantastic light onto on the stage. (Berlioz, The Capture of Troy, act III, scene I)
