Twenty-three-year-old Mrs. Anne Stewart Cather (left), red-headed railroad company clerk and 1947 winner of a company-sponsored beauty contest, was found in her boarding house nude and with her skull crushed, apparently with a hammer, today. Her husband (right), Fred R. Catcher, 27, was being held incommunicado at Santa Clara County Jail in San Jose, pending the arrival of Sacramento police. Authorities claim he said, "I beat my wife up; maybe killed her..."
