On the left is the ship where Rinaldo will embark. One of his companions has already descended. The other companion is standing in the foreground and is armed and helmeted. He is seen from behind only, and seems to speak. Rinaldo, standing on the bank between him and the ship, listens. Rinaldo is seen from the front. He is dressed in his armor, but bareheaded, and he holds his shield with one hand; the gesture of his left arm, raised towards the places he will leave, announces that he is going to leave in his turn, and that his resolution is taken. In the background, Armida, dressed in light draperies, runs to hold him back. On the right, in the foreground, two nymphs play in the water. (Brahms, Rinaldo)
