Fantin-Latour, Henri, 1836-1904 · [ca. 1877]
Rinaldo leaves Armida, led by the two knights who came to fetch him. He is covered with his armor, except for his bare head. One of his companions shows him the ship that awaits on the left, with full sails; the other puts his hand on his shoulder and pulls him. A naked nymph, halfway out of the water and overturned on the shore, tries to seduce the hero; another naked nymph stands up and, with her arm extended towards him, begs him again. Tufts of greenery are along the left, on the shore. (Brahms, Rinaldo)
