Racing Yawl Goes Down -- Hurricane Hazel battered this famous racing yacht, the Vamarie, against a sea wall until she sank to the bottom. The sinking of the Vamarie caused great excitement among the midshipmen. About 300 of them clustered around her as heroic attempts were made to save the yawl.

Woman Lighthouse Keeper Serves Coast Guard on Chesapeake Bay. Mrs. Fanny May Salters, keeper of Turkey Point light on Chesapeake Bay and the only woman lighthouse keeper in the U. S. Coast Guard service, raises the Stars and Stripes to the top of the flagpole near the lighthouse. She has been keeper of the light since her husband died in 1925. Mrs. Salters does not long for the good old days, because she prefers the modern conveniences. A flip of the electric switch now sends Turkey Point's beams out over the Bay, but in the old days there was back-breaking toil to keep the oil lamps burning.
