Revolution in Dixie. A new industrial expansion, so vast even most Southerners are not aware of its dimensions, is sweeping the South. Cotton-picking methods depicted in inset are a rarity today. Sulphur mining in Louisiana, top left, cattle ranching in Florida, top right, and new industries, moved bodily from the North, bottom, illustrate the new vitality and great hopes for the future in the new South. The old corn-cotton-tobacco pattern is passing. The South is still a big producer of all three but it’s also becoming an economic powerhouse in other fields at a pace that shows no signs of slackening.
