The Rev. Ralph Abernathy, head of Southern Christian Leadership Conference, talked into microphones in Memphis today after being released from jail on $1 bond. He and four other civil rights leaders previously had refused to post bond and were jailed after being indicted on charges of encouraging Negro pupils to boycott Memphis schools in protest demonstrations. Abernathy remained behind bars eight days.
