Painting, ink, colours and gold on paper, mounted on card, trimmed down from an album page, standing portrait of Mughal emperor Jahangir (r. 1605-1627) leaning on straight sword, holding jewelled rosary, wearing strings of pearls, rubies and emeralds, semi-transparent white jama with two contrasting patkas (one tie-dyed) tied at the waist, striped trousers and green shoes, with kard dagger and four archer's rings hanging from his waist, against light blue-green ground, inscribed Balchand (lower right), Agra, India, c. 1620.
