This striking golden portrait depicts Amida Nyorai (Amitābha Tathagata), the Buddha of Limitless Light. Treasured for his benevolence, Amida welcomes any who call upon him to the Western Paradise over which he presides. Amida is the central deity of Japan’s popular Pure Land (Jōdo shū) sects.
