Plane Races Car On The Mojave Desert. The “dry lake” at Murco, Calif., in the heart of the Mojave Desert, is a good place to step on the gas without fear of traffic. Photo shows Louis Moore in his straight-eight Miller racing car, trying to beat out Dick Dodge, millionaire sportsman, in his tapered wing Waco airplane. At the moment this picture was made, both car and plane were clocked at 145 miles an hour.
